About Dr. Deborah Nixon, Psychologist
We all have seemingly insurmountable personal struggles at times. If you are troubled and not coping well on your own, you may benefit from consulting with a registered psychologist. Problems such as depression, anxiety, sexual abuse, past traumatic events, the death of a loved one, workplace stress and relationship difficulties can all be helped through psychotherapy. Having an experienced psychologist with whom to consult breaks the isolation you may be currently feeling and can provide you with the perspective and tools to help you move your life forward in a direction and that feels right to you.
I have been in private practice since 1983 doing individual and marital psychotherapy. My approach is feeling/insight oriented addressing current issues and, when appropriate, helping you work through unresolved problems from your past that may be having a negative impact on your present-day life. I find as I get older, there are increasingly more middled aged and senior patients reaching out to me since they want to work with a psychologist who has considerable life experience.

Individual therapies include emotionally focused, gestalt, client-centred and applied relaxation and stress management. While I no longer do marital therapy, I do see a number of individual patients who are struggling with issues in their marriage and also whether to stay in the relationship or to separate.
I treat individuals from diverse backgrounds/occupations and I also have considerable experience working with law enforcement officers from federal, provincial, and municipal police services.
